“I stipulated two major lines: constructing visual forms while being a merely executive body; setting and coordinating several elemental tasks that result in certain complexity of the body. I used my own (moving) body as a tool to create a structure, which became a drawing on the floor.” – Radouan Mriziga
55 is the first part of a trilogy produced by Moussem Nomadic Arts Centre, in which Radouan Mriziga examines the relationship between dance and architecture, portraying man as a balancing act between mind, body and spirit.
Mriziga confronts the beauty of the moving body with the geometric power of architecture and sculpture. With his work he questions the amount and the nature of the information a performer can exchange with a viewer, in order to communicate or alter the understanding of a situation.
Choreographer and dancer Radouan Mriziga studied dance in Marrakesh and Tunis before continuing his training at P.A.R.T.S (Performing Arts Reserch Trainign Studios) in Brussels. Since 2008 he lives and works in Brussels. He danced in Half elf zomeravond (Bart Meuleman, Toneelhuis) and Re: Zeitung (Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker). He is artist in residence at the Moussem Nomadic Arts Centre - which in its activities reflects on the impact of globalization caused by old and new migratory flows - and artist in residence at the KAAITHEATER in Brussels.
